There are many reasons for Costen's disorder to occur. It could have been caused by a misfortune that led to an injured jaw. Other times it's because of things that are pretty simple like nail biting and gum chewing. As long as you exert too much stress on your jaw, there's always a possibility for this to happen. With temporomandibular joint disorder, you'll feel as if half of your mouth will fall off. Sometimes you'll hear something popping, and the feeling that it leaves is sometimes painful, or sometimes it feels as if you're hearing carton being torn apart or sand being grated inside your mouth. To prevent this from happening, doctors would usually suggest for TMJ braces to be fitted on.

Since misaligned teeth is also one cause of Costen's disorder, it's only fitting for the patient to get TMJ braces. This is used like a mouth piece in order to correct the problem. It's pretty amazing as to how much pain it can actually lessen.

It's actually pretty different, these TMJ braces. According to some users, they're just like the mouth piece that boxers use when fighting inside the ring. Although it is helpful, some users attest that it's not really very comfortable. And even though it does help in realigning the teeth, some of the users says that it's rather heavy.

This though, is different from the normal retainers because you can take them off if you want. That's right; you don't have to permanently wear them if you don't want too. They are there in order to help your jaw keep its balance so that it wouldn't have to be misaligned when you're talking or eating. So when you feel like you don't have to wear it anymore, you can take it off by yourself instead of going to the dentists for his aid.

Costen's disorder has no specific cure as of the moment, but there are a number of ways to remedy it. Getting TMJ braces for one should be sufficient as your temporary fix.
