White Noise Sound Masking For Improved Office Productivity

by Frank Barnett

White noise generators are an effective tool in sound masking especially for medical offices. A doctor's office sees many people come and go during the day from patients to deliverymen. At the same time, information that patients consider private is often discussed. A white noise generator would help protect their privacy.

Office sound masking technology protects patient's confidential information by creating background noise to prevent the private information from being overheard by other people in the vicinity. The noise created is referred to as white noise because it is neutral and non intrusive in nature. It is able to counter act and disrupt the sound waves from private conversations so that it is not discernible beyond the immediate area.

This stops others, like anyone in the waiting area, from listening in on confidential discussions between physicians and those in their care. Because noises can carry across barriers like walls or doors, anyone close by in the reception area or an exam area might hear confidential details, despite a closed door. Unless safeguards are in place, discussions among nurses and lab techs could be overheard as well.

White noise can also protect a patient's private data in the administrative area of the office. Receptionists and administrators need to get personal and private information from patients both in person and over the phone. They often verify a patient's information before an appointment and also receive financial and insurance information at the same time. This is usually done at the reception desk which is adjacent to the waiting area where other people can easily overhear.

This private information includes birth dates, credit card numbers, address, and insurance information. The recent rise in identity theft has made people very concerned with safeguarding this type of personal information. By generating white noise in the reception and waiting area, practitioners can keep their patients personal data safe and secure.

Practitioners must also ensure the privacy of health information in order to adhere to hipaa privacy rules. Practitioners must control who has access to their patient's private information. Utilizing white noise machines in the office is one way that they can achieve that.

White noise is essential in doctors receptions and offices for masking crucial personal information which could be over heard by people around if the sounds travel beyond the close vicinity. Most of the information such as address, credit card details, date of birth, and insurance information and other such like information if leaked could cause major problems to people. To maintain privacy, office sound masking is of utmost importance. Doctors are duty bound to comply with hipaa privacy rules so that their patients feel secure and are not subjected to harassment due to leakage of vital information.
